Today is the day!

After a very long and controversial Oscar season, it is finally here.

This season has been a struggle for The Academy, filmmakers and Oscar viewers. It’s interesting to see how everything is going to play out on the telecast tonight, despite the many issues.

It’s the first time in 30 years or so that the Oscars telecast has gone without a host. The host makes the show run smoothly and usually creates a flow from presenter to presenter. The Academy doubled up on presenters this year, so many are hoping that the telecast won’t have dead air. There have been multiple controversies with films that are nominated as well. Films such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Detainment and Green Book have all been under fire for the artistic integrity of the content and the history of certain directors and screenwriters. The Academy also revoked their decision to not present certain categories live during the telecast because of the backlash that came from filmmakers, critics and cinephiles who value each and every category.

The nominations this year have been questionable and it has been interesting to see how viewers have responded to them this year. Here’s a rant followed by predictions uploaded to Candid Cinema Podcast on Castbox.
